Great Drone for a Beginner

M. Kelling

I am new to drones (this is my second one), and it is a great little drone to use to learn how to fly drones! We recently had some snow in our area, so I edited a video of footage that was recorded on the drone (see attached).

Pros:
• Easy to fly
• A good number of features for this price level
• 5 speeds helps it to fly in a range of wind conditions
• Connects wirelessly to your phone to record video and stills, and to control it
• Records locally on the device in case you lose signal to the phone
• Comes with two batteries!
• Comes with LOTS of replacement parts, from propellers to propeller guards, there are even replacement parts for the plastic that covers the LED lights

Cons:
• Controller doesn’t have a great layout; hard to reach some of the buttons while you are flying
• Camera is fixed; you can’t turn or tilt it, it is always looking forward
• Phone app is just OK; struggles with connectivity and needs some overall work
• Charging port is on the drone itself, so there is no way to charge one battery while the other is being used for flying

Overall a good deal for the money you spend!

Note: I received this drone at no cost in exchange for this review, however I was never asked to do anything but give my honest thoughts, and I believe that I have done so.

This is a great starter drone. I didn't want to invest a bunch of cash exploring a new hobby & Sure, it's missing some features it would be nice to have ( gps recall etc ) but it's a great drone for the price - and I'm hooked on dronin'

Good Starter Drone from Holy Stone but...

 HS110D

Keep in mind this review comes from a very rookie drone pilot. Videos may reflect that.

Holy Stone quadcopters/drones all seem to come packaged quite well. Although I only own two so it’s a small sampling. I also think they are very responsive to customer support. Email them any time and you will get a response within a reasonable time period.

Because controllers come in various shapes and sizes, there are always some differences between them, so be sure to read the manual. The manual doesn’t discuss the app or how to us it. Plus there is that, Chinese to English translation, issue that requires some reading between the lines.

It has a fixed camera so smooth operation of the controls is critical for good video/images. The camera has a 120 degree field of view and produces nice wide-angle video and images. The 110G camera only has 110 degrees FOV.

Their drones can also take a hit and keep on ticking. I’ve crashed both mine and only the prop protectors fell off.

PROS:
120 degrees FOV camera.
Controller uses AA batteries. No need to recharge, just replace.
$75 price point. (This was over $100 when it first came out)
Relatively easy to fly.
Flip trick is really cool.
Can survive minor crashes.

CONS:
Heavy controller with four AA batteries.
Mobile Phone holder/adapter is a bit wonky.
I found it a little difficult to trim the controls for a stable hover.
No description of software in manual.

All in all, I’m having fun with the HS110D. Very good drone in light to no wind conditions for the “under $100” price point, but I prefer my 110G with GPS capability for only about $25 more.

It’s an ok drone.

The one thing I don’t like about the drone is when my drone got disconnected from the remote it flew away and I couldn’t get it back. Everything else was pretty good though. I’m not sure if I can get my money back.
