Easy, stable, hard to crash

For beginners this is great. It takes very little actual skill to get this up in the air and flying. It self stabalizes, hovers in one spot automatically even in a bit of wind. The camera could be a bit higher resolution, but for the price, this is a great drone to have. I'm using it as a stepping stone to practice on before getting a higher dollar model that I dont want to crash. Honestly though, first flight out of the box, super easy to fly and very hard to crash. Ill be using this thing quite a bit. Super fun and easy to pair with an android phone.

The first one I got had an issue. Holy Stone sent out a replacement very quickly. First flight with the replacement went well. Pictures are a little blurry, see attached. Overall handling is pretty good. Range is as advertised. I think its a solid buy at the price, although image stabilization is certainly missed.

The product, packaging, size, flight experience, and customer service are all top notch. I'm very happy with my purchase in that regard. The app and photo / video quality aren't quite what I was hoping for, but it's more than sufficient at this price point. Photos and video are bright and clear, though you'll notice a lack of resolution when compared to other photos you're used to taking with your cell phone. Just keep in mind how much you're getting with this whole package.

There's no gimbal, so the video is pretty raw. It would take some serious post processing to create proper cinematic video. If I were a video professional I would look elsewhere, but this is great for playing around with and learning your way around a drone.

The app is pretty user friendly, though my video feed will glitch from time to time; hence the 4/5 stars. If they would put some more development into maintaining connectivity it would be a home run.

Customer service is awesome. I emailed with a question and had a thoughtful response a few hours later. Can't beat that!

No instructions and the online help is... well crap.

Update: 12.18.2020 - Holy Stone is sending me a replacement Drone. I will report back and make changes as my experience changes. Adjusting the star rating up from a two star to a four given their response and willingness to help.

I purchased the HS175 as a gift. It is simply to set-up physically but that where the ease ends.

Lets get this out of the way right away - I am a software and app engineer. There is no way go this earth it should be so difficult to unlock the drone. NO WAY IT SHOULD BE SO DIFFICULT. Ridiculous. The app I finally found to download and use with the drone is crap. Does it work? Sometimes ye,s but most of the time it does not. Download yet another from HolyStone on the app store - doesn't work. Again - not instructions and the online help is useless.

There is no direction of support given about App to download etc. Really you are on your own. I WOULD NOT recommend the HS175 Drone for anyone who wants a simple drone to fly.

If it works - it is pretty fun to fly but wait five minutes and it might not respond to the same commands you gave it earlier. Open field. No other Wifi. Using an iPhone running the latest OS with the most updated HS app. The remote stops communicating (fully charged) or something . If so unbelievably frustrating... again coming from a techie and a software engineer. Don't buy this Drone - if i could send mine back I would.
